A 2D Echo is a process of making pictures of your heart using high frequency sound waves. This is a test which takes pictures of your heart’s chambers, valves, and the blood vessels attached to your heart. A probe called a transducer is passed over your chest. The probe produces sound waves that bounce off your heart and “echo” back to the probe. The test can be used for multiple reasons including helping doctors understand the size and thickness along with the movement of your heart valves, its pumping strength along with problems including ones with the outer lining of your heart, or large blood vessels that enter and leave the heart, blood clots in the chambers and abnormal holes between the chambers of the heart.
